Poulsen sees bright future in country’s youth football

The team will face Burundi in an international friendly encounter at the Azam Complex in Chamazi today. “TFF is investing heavily in the development of young talents, which is a very good gesture for improving football at the national level. All this is being done to create a pipeline for the future football of which, I am of no doubt that Tanzania will make it.
“Previously, most countries in the world had a philosophy of improving football from the top downwards a system that practically failed but now, it’s the other way round as we focus on the development of football from the bottom to the top, a thing that is producing good results,” said Poulsen.
The U-14 was formed last year in Mwanza, where young players from different regions congregated and later produced the current team, which comprises 22 players. “We have so far travelled with the team to Morogoro and Zanzibar for friendly matches and we have done extremely wonderful in almost all the games these multi-talented stars have played,” he said.
He said the main purpose of playing friendly matches was to provide necessary fitness as well as match experience to players so that they become ready to face any opponent. About Serengeti Boys, Poulsen said the team is making Tanzania proud because out of 20 games they played, they managed to win most of them a situation he described as “very encouraging” in terms of football advancement in this nation.
He said Serengeti Boys deserve to be in Madagascar even though there is an issue to be resolved about an alleged inclusion of an overage player by their opponents Congo. Also, the ex-Taifa Stars mentor commented positively on the just concluded Under-20 tournament involving Mainland Premier League teams, which went in favor of Simba SC.
“I watched closely the whole tournament and I was impressed with the performances displayed by competing teams. Talents are always there and the only job that we have to do as football experts and lovers is to support these young boys,” remarked Poulsen.
Poulsen will be eager to see the Under-14 side, which is under the tutelage of U-14 coach, Oscar Mirambo win against Burundi today. Burundians jetted in Dar es Salaam on Friday ready for the match that will be televised live by Azam TV. The international friendly has been sanctioned by the World soccer governing body, FIFA.
Initially the boys were scheduled to play against Seychelles but the FA in an archipelago and country in the Indian Ocean d e c l a r e d that its t e a m was not ready for the game.
