    Stage set for Zanzibar Budokan Judo Cup

    Organised by Zanzibar Judo Association (ZJA), the event is expected to draw judokas from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
    According to ZJA honorary president Tsuyoshi Shimaoka, preparations to stage the event are complete, saying that the event will be used to select the national team set to compete in various international tournaments next year.
    “We have 90 players who have already confirmed to battle for top honours at this year’s competition. Participants are all from Zanzibar and Tanzania Mainland and the entrance is free,” he said. He said Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba) will field a total of 45 players, while information from Judo Association of Tanzania (JATA) will also field 45 judokas.
    Shimaoka added that Mainland judokas are coming from Magereza (20), Polisi (10), while Kisutu and another Judo clubs will also field 15 judokas.
    He said men judokas will compete in various weight category competitions, battling in 60 kilogramme, 66kg, 73kg, 81kg and over 90kg, while for women it will be open contests. Shimaoka said first, second and third winners in each category will get medal, certificate and other top prizes.
    He said that best three players in each category will get medals, certificates and big prizes, while all participants will get Judo t-shirts from ZJA.
    Shimaoka said that the event will be graced by Counselor of Embassy of Japan in Tanzania Hitoshi Suzuki and official from the ministry responsible for sports.
    Shimaoka also appealed to sports fans to come forward in big number to cheer up judo matches, saying no entrance fee will be charged for fans wishing to witness the event. “We are looking forward for an exciting event because all participants are training hard in their respectively Judo Clubs,” he said.
