    Professional tennis course benefits Dar

    Organised and coordinated by Dar es Salaam youth, Rishi Somaiya, the course was bankrolled by DTB Bank, Mgobas General Supplier and Shymound Diesels. The course coordinator, Somaiya said the course offered principles of tennis playing, perfect short playing, and services while insisting on the proper use of playing courts.
    “The trainees learned how to play varieties of strokes, how to execute all spins. They also learned basic court movement in singles, doubles and mixed doubles strategies,” he said. Adding, he said the training aimed to lay foundation for the professional tennis playing to the course trainees.
    “We want them to be skilled players when they grow to play major tournaments at the national and international levels,” he added. He said the former national tennis team player, Omary Abdallah ‘China’ was among the coaches who conducted the course.
    One of the trainees, Kulthum Kazim said she had benefited much from the training and lauded its coordinator, Somaiya for a commendable job. “It has given us all basic skills of lawn tennis, this assures us of successful career in the sport,” she added.
    ‘Somaiya is very young, but what he had done has created a good base of tennis at both club and country levels,” he said. Adding, another trainee, Pranav Rughani said the course was very fruitful and visionary. It has opened us a way to a bright future in tennis,” said the trainee.
    He thanked the coordinator for facilitating the training and the tennis equipment, especially balls and racquets, which are essential tools for a tennis player. “I have attended many course before, but no of them offered me a playing gear.
    Somaiya was very generous for the both the training and equipment,” the youth said. Zynab Kazim, one of the course beneficiaries also commended the course. “I now feel a matured player after the course. I will work hard to ensure I become a super star before turning 18,” she said.
    The Dare es Salaam Gymkhana club’s youth tennis coach, Salumu Mvita said the course was a genuine initiative which he said has come at the right time. ‘Somaiya did what others hadn’t done before. I believe the idea to have a special training camp has helped much the course trainees, most of them aged below 15 years,” he said.
